What to Wear for Family Photos

Family

I thought you’d never ask! This is SUCH an important question, and I’m thrilled you’re curious to find the answer. Let me tell you something most people don’t know: your clothes often make or break the photoshoot. So read on for what to wear for family photos!

The styling of your family photos matters just as much as the photographer and location that you choose. You truly could have the best outfits in the world and use your phone for pictures and end up with some of the best photos. Honestly, your outfits could make or break the photos quicker than some bad lighting or crummy location!

Should Family Photo Outfits Match or Coordinate?

I like to say…think coordinate, not matchy-matchy. Of course, unless you’re going for the matching t-shirts and jeans look…be my guest, babe. It’s totally a vibe and I love it!

Find one outfit that you just loooove and can’t live without, and go from there. If the outfit you picked has patterns or colors, use those colors to create a color scheme. Once you’ve created your color scheme with about 3-5 colors, start incorporating mixed-matched pieces of clothing within that color scheme. I swear they will all come together beautifully as long as you stick to your color scheme and don’t go too heavy on one or two colors.

Use Textures, Patterns, and Accessories for Family Photos

Maximize the eye-candy!! Use different textures, patterns, and accessories to really make your outfits pop off the screen. You might not think different textures matter, but you truly can see textures through the screen.

Think wool, lace, corduroy, tweed…any sort of texture mixing you can do, the better. And over-do it on the accessories. Whatever amount of accessories you use on the daily, almost double it for photos! Wear more than one necklace, stack the rings and bracelets, wear an anklet or belly chain, throw something in your hair, do some fun highlighter or shimmer eye-shadow…anything to add to the eye-candy is what we want!
